San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

“The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers, but for the wide world’s joy.”

~ Henry Ward Beecher

Make the most of the lengthening days and sunlit evenings with more outdoor family time! Soak up the sun and all the joy it brings, then when the day comes to an end, try this handy list:

Epic Sunsets and Where to Find Them in SLO County

There are two upcoming performances we want to let you know about – here are the details:

Carmina Burana – Saturday, May 20th at 8pm and Sunday, May 21st at 3pm. SLOCA high school sophomore Kate Fisher will be performing in this ballet, presented at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo. Tickets and information can be found at slomasterchorale.org, or by calling 805-756-4TIX.

Peter and the Wolf: Meet the Instruments of the Orchestra – May 30th, 11 am at the Vina Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles. Kate Fisher is also dancing in this production, which is free for families and school groups! To RSVP, go to this website and click “Buy Tickets” but no purchase is necessary. Simply RSVP for your group and the number of people.

Remember that attending live stage productions such as these count toward E&E hours, so you can enrich your child’s education while supporting a fellow SLOCA student! (Not to mention enjoying a little culture…)

We hope you have a great Cinco de Mayo and weekend – eat tacos with your family and try to spend some device-free, distraction-free time together!
