Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Wednesday Wonders: Future SLOCA Engineers

{photos by Eryka Santoyo}

For today’s wonder moment, we wanted to share about the Intermediate STEM class that was offered recently as a 4-week Friday class. Third and fourth grade students were invited to participate in engineering design challenges, led by Cal Poly Engineering students.

The kids had a blast creating engineering-focused projects that related to our history: Westward Expansion and water filters, boats for the Erie Canal, Thomas Jefferson and clocks, and slavery and hat making.

The ability to partner with Cal Poly for opportunities such as this class is one of the reasons we love being located so close to their campus! It was a wonderful collaboration that provided fun, educational, and enriching lessons for our students.

Here are a few photos taken during one of the classes:
