Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. Magical Moments: Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

{photo by Margie Peterson}

Today’s Magical Moment reflects on an special event our athletes were able to participate in recently. This trimester our Primary – UMS students are playing Ultimate Frisbee, and coach Michael Riley wrote in to share some of the details of their first tournament! Michael and his wife Sharon Peach have two daughters, Zoe (UMS) and Harper (Intermediate), and this is their 3rd year at SLOCA.

SLOCA's first athletic trip to play in the Spaghetti Western Ultimate Tournament was well supported and fun!  Each of our athletes had ample opportunity to play competitive ultimate against great competition.The SLOCA A team improved with each game, and notched a win in their 5th game of the day despite being exhausted! All of our athletes demonstrated outstanding spirit and sportsmanship even as they grew increasingly tired. SLOCA B improved with each game, winning their 3rd game (making them the third place finisher in their pool), and thrilling us with multiple marathon points in each of their last two games of the day. Most impressively, SLOCA B won the Spirit of the Game award for their division for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, competitiveness and team spirit. They received a commemorative game disc and Spaghetti Western tournament hats for each player to wear. This is a high honor in the game of ultimate and a fabulous accomplishment for our spirited athletes! If you see them wearing their hats around campus, let them know how proud you are for this recognition.

During the month of May, SLOCA's ultimate athletes will be in action each Friday afternoon starting at 3:30pm. There will also be an all day tournament at hosted at SLOCA on May 30th. Please come out to support them and learn more about the incredible game of Ultimate!

So exciting! Thanks, Michael, for sharing this experience with us, and for keeping us up-to-date on the schedule for games and the upcoming tournament at SLOCA. We deeply appreciate all of our coaches and are thrilled at how much the kids are loving Ultimate Frisbee this trimester!
