Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Wednesday Wonders: A Stellar Day with Scott Kelly

{all photos by Cameron Ingalls}

“When we do things that are really hard, we can achieve great things – and that has worked as a great model for me.”

~ Captain Scott Kelly

Many of our SLOCA families and others in our SLO community had the privilege of hearing NASA Astronaut  Scott Kelly speak when he came to visit last month. Captain Kelly, along with two additional NASA astronauts, gave a special presentation to our students at school and answered tons of eager questions. He then spoke at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center, sharing his extraordinary life experiences and inspiring his audience to dare greatly.

What an amazing opportunity this was – we are so thankful to Captain Scott Kelly for coming, and to our staff who helped put together this astronomical experience! Many thanks also to Cameron Ingalls, who took many spectacular photos during Captain Kelly's visit. Today we will share several of them!

SLOCA parents and students, if you attended either of these events, we’d love to hear your thoughts – please leave a comment below and share something you learned from Captain Scott Kelly, or anything that encouraged or inspired you from his visit.

What an incredible day – please share your thoughts about Captain Kelly’s visit in the comments below!
