Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Arabian Peninsula + The Rise of Islam

the rise of Islam

Happy 4th week of School! How does it feel to have a full week of school under your belts? As you settle into your new schedules and dynamics at home, we hope that the Monday Mix-Ins, whether it’s a part of your routine yet or not, has been useful. These resources are used as an additional support for home days. If adding yet one more thing right now is too much, no problem! You can always come back here as often as you’d like.

This week in our classrooms, we are going to finish up our discussion on the Byzantine Empire with Justinian in power along with the Empress Theodora. Then we head over to the Arabian Peninsula to learn about the Arab people, gain understanding on who Muhammad is and the beginnings of Islam. We also begin our readings on Arthur, Wart and Merlin! In Science and Art, we’re exploring the atmosphere and learning about the color wheel.  It’s an exciting week and we have lots of links for you below! We even found an audio interview with Demi, the illustrative author of Muhammad! Are you ready? Let’s get comfortable and begin our exploration…
