Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

1st-4th Grade Friday Academy Classes

Our enrichment coordinator, Kristina Doles, is joining us today to share a bit about our 1st through 4th grade academy classes. For our readers who are just joining us, SLOCA offers additional educational options on Fridays:

“Since inception, SLOCA has provided optional quality enrichment activities on Fridays, focusing on a wide variety of interests, topics, and subjects. These are a wonderful way for students to connect with kids from both tracks, learn new skills, gain new experiences, and meet some of the SLOCA requirements (such as PE and Fine Arts) too.”

Let’s hear more from Kristina…

The winter session of Academy Clubs and Classes (ACs) has officially come to a close. As you’ll see below, students had fun and learned a lot along the way! This slideshow showcases 1st-4th graders who participated in Fun with Fibers, Hand Sewing, Theater Play (1st/2nd), Theater Class (3rd/4th), Playful Painting, Mystery Science, STEM Challenge, Beginning Chess, Minute to Win It and Ninja Warrior. Whew! It’s been busy!

The spring session of ACs starts on Friday, March 22. We have some new and exciting classes on the schedule as well as some favorites from the fall. Offerings include Schoolyard Games, Bug-ology, Crazy 8’s Math Fun, Hands-On Engineering, Choreographed Dance, Garden Lab, Seasonal Crafts, Clay Lab, Theater (3rd/4th), Eco Earth Science, and the ever-popular Ninja Warrior Training. In case you missed it in the Bear Necessities, registration for 1st-4th grade students opened on Tuesday. Hop on the website to sign up soon and get your pick of the classes.

There are some openings available for 4th-8th grade students who are interested in joining Academy Clubs mid-year. We’re excited to welcome Kerry Long of Blueberry Jewelry, who will be teaching Jewelry Making Club! Also, our Science Bowl Club had a great time competing in February. In addition to continuing to hone their skills for next year, Mr.Yorke has some special opportunities planned for this club. If your student is interested in joining Science Bowl from 12:30-2 or Jewelry Making from 2-3:30, please email [email protected].
