Artists and photographers local to San Luis Obispo county are invited to submit their work for a juried one-night, pop up exhibition to be on display at the Performing Arts Center lobby during the “Chris Burkard: Photojournalism at the Ends of the Earth” speaker and documentary film event Friday, February 21, 2020, sponsored by San Luis Obispo Classical Academy.
In the spirit of Chris Burkard’s remote landscape and environmental photojournalism, the theme of the exhibition will be “Call of the Wild” which will pay homage to the raw, untamed, uncontainable aspects of nature, wilderness and the environment.
Artists and photographers working in any 2D medium are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to those working digital or film photography, adventure, outdoor adventure or travel photography, iPhone photography, landscape photography, drawing, collage, mixed media, printmaking, graphic design or fiber.
E-mail 1-2 jpg files of your entry to [email protected] before midnight on February 10, 2020
Name each file using the following format: “LastName_FirstName_Title.jpg”
Use the following subject line: “Call of the Wild”
Pay your entry fee here.
Entrants will then receive a ticket for the February 21st event at will call the night of the event.
Pieces do not need to be framed, if selected. Works on paper without a frame will be hung on clips.
Work can be for sale, with direct sale to the artist the night of the event, with no commission or percentage taken by San Luis Classical Academy or the Performing Arts Center. Sales must be managed entirely by the artist.
Artists whose pieces are selected must be present to hang their work 60-90 minutes before the event and take down their work 15 minutes after the event on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the lobby of the Performing Art Center on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo. The event begins at 6:30. Take-in time is between 4:30-5:30 pm and take down will begin when the event ends, approximately between 8:30-9:30 pm. All artists who submit to “Call of the Wild” will receive a ticket to the Chris Burkard event and are encouraged to stay and enjoy the speaker and film.
