SLO classical academy High School
Classes overview
All there is to thinking is seeing something noticeable which makes you see something you weren't noticing which makes you see something that isn’t even visible.
– Norman Maclean
All SLOCAHS students, regardless of grade level, follow the same four-year history and literature cycle. Students take history and literature courses concurrently to reinforce cross-disciplinary learning. Course rigor is scaled to grade level and students are offered CANON and HONORS options.
Because we are preparing students for a future that is largely unknown, students must learn to think clearly, critically, and honestly across a variety of domains and disciplines. Below is a brief overview of our courses and an explanation of each course’s core values and educational goals. Keep in mind that course offerings will expand along with our population.
In addition to our University Model 3-day program—where students attend a full load of classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with independent study at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays—we also offer a five days/week on-campus option with additional teacher support and electives.
Students in the 5-day program will experience increased community building with their peers, supported independent study and mentorship with teachers, and added enrichment opportunities. This program follows our proven University Model with students attending their full class load on M/W/F, as well as spending T/Th on campus with teacher-directed mornings, student-directed afternoons, plus optional enrichment electives (examples include physical education, band, theatre, and art classes).
