Wednesday Wonders: A Look Back at Intermediate Basketball

{photos by Cheryl McCabe}

Though we are well into the Spring sports season, we have a slight throwback to share today for our Wednesday Wonders post. Our students in all levels had a fantastic basketball season last trimester (despite all the rain that cancelled a few practices and games for the younger kids…) and we happened to get some fun photos of one our Intermediate basketball games to share.

We asked the Intermediate basketball coaches to comment on how the season went, and here are their responses:

A great part of the process for me was to see the improvement in all the kids. Without exception, each student was better at multiple basketball skills than they were at the start of the season. But best was the times when one of the kids made a mistake, received my instruction, and then immediately made the correction. That was really gratifying for me when it happened, but of course it'll serve the student well in their lives, having that skill in receiving instruction.

~ Paul Bischoff, Track A Intermediate Basketball Coach

I coached the 3-4th graders this season on Tuesday-Thursday. I really noticed a great amount of improvement in their overall basketball skill levels. All of my kids had a great attitude each day and had a excitement to play the game which was great to work with. I really enjoyed watching each of them grow in different aspects of their game that we worked on together. I hadn't personally coached this young of an age group before and it was very satisfying as a coach to teach the fundamentals of basketball and to see the progression of the players from our first practice to our final game and how much they had learned.

Thank you, coaches, for investing time and care in these young, growing athletes! We know the other ages also had a blast playing basketball this year. Go Grizzlies!

Here are several more exciting photos (thank you, Cheryl McCabe!):
