San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Don't forget to click over and comment about our character trait of the month, Resilience, to be entered in this month's drawing! Today is the last day and we'd love to hear from you!

Hooray for Friday! Spring is definitely in the air and the weekend lies ahead, full of potential. As you’re making plans, keep “Free Friday” in mind. The “free” doesn’t mean free of charge, or free from school, but time spent free from electronics and social media, time spent with family and friends in real face-to-face interaction.

For those of you looking to get out into the community, here are a few events happening around the area. Have a great weekend!

  • The SLO Children’s Museum has some special events in April, with a SLO Police Department Meet & Greet on Saturday, April 20th, 1:00-1:45 PM. And ongoing this month – Caterpillars! You can adopt a caterpillar for $2 and create it’s habitat in a butterfly bungalow. You can also create a tie-dye butterfly using spray watercolors at the Art Table. See website for more info on each of these events.

And finally, Mrs. Vacarro entered all the art students in the Arbor Day Art Contest. SLOCA intermediate had some winners!

3rd Grade: Amea Haar, Karena Talley and Grace Cheney

4th Grade: Emily Owens, Isabel Helm and Mia Ritter

The Arbor Day Celebration is held at Meadow Park located off South street on April 20, 2013 from 9-12. Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the morning! Breakfast snacks and beverages have been donated by local businesses, the Tree Circus will be performing, tree climbing demonstrations, educational booths and art will be on display.  Annie Oak Leaf and the City's Urban Forest Crew will all be there too!

Congratulations to all our artists and a special thanks to Mrs. Vaccaro for her excellent teaching of ALL the students!
