“I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.”
-J. B. Priestley
Welcome one and all to a new season of learning together here at SLO Classical Academy! It’s the start of a new day and a fresh year, and we hope you are all delighted with the prospect. We know this year has many bits of magic waiting for us, and we are excited to begin it together.

Mondays here at Down Home usually feature what we like to call Magical Moments – those “aha!” moments experienced by our children or ourselves, such as when important connections are made, or a moment of wonder is enjoyed at school or at home. This year we are going to try something a little different and focus on moments captured in photos. Occasionally we may feature short parent testimonies as well, but the idea is to give you a little less to read on the blog, and to start your Monday off with a smile.
Today, however, for those of you who are new to our school community and new to our blog, Down Home would like to make you feel welcome and comfortable – so pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s get to know each other.
First off, let me introduce myself – my name is Jenny Bischoff and this is my second year as the Down Home Blog Coordinator. My family is currently in its eighth year here at SLO Classical Academy. We are on Track A and have a son in Primary, a daughter in Intermediate, and a daughter in Upper Middle School. We love learning together SLOCA-style, and are thrilled to be a part of this dynamic community!
Here at SLO Classical, we are all about “educating for life” and our blog, Down Home, is here to support your home life. It’s purpose is to encourage, inspire, nurture and educate us on the home-front, as we nurture and learn alongside our children. There will be a variety of things we share here, such as organizational and home learning tips, thought-provoking articles, enrichment activities, recipes, crafts, glimpses into what’s happening in the classrooms, photos from SLOCA events, and more. This is a forum designed to support your vital role as an involved parent who is providing a rich, classical education for your children.
We also hope the blog will help foster relationships in this amazing community of parents. Let's make this a fun place to connect and share ideas! So jump on in and participate by leaving comments, sending in your suggestions and photos, and encouraging each other along the journey.
The easiest way to keep current with the blog is to subscribe to Down Home via email. You'll receive a message in your inbox each time there is new content on the blog. Click here to subscribe. (The link is also always found in the right column under the search bar.)
If you have a question or idea to share, you can contact us at [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you!
We look forward to a great year of educating for life, together.
