Character Trait for January 2014: Diligence

{source}

We are starting off the new year with a new character trait, and this one is well-timed for many of us who need a little motivation after our holiday break. It’s Diligence:

Committing to doing tasks with excellence and persevering with determination and patience to complete tasks in spite of difficulties and discouragement.

As we get back into the swing of things and readjust to a more structured schedule, let’s encourage each other and our kids to pursue diligence in our studies. Let’s seek out ways to boost that love of learning in our homes. As parents we need that as much as our kids do!

I for my part am not one of those who have innate knowledge. I am simply one who loves the past and who is diligent in investigating it.

~ Confucius

Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.

~ Abigail Adams, in a letter to John Quincy Adams, May 8, 1780
