Latin inscription in the Amphitheatre at Pompeii

Today we have a Latin magical moment from the Peterson family: Margie and Ken Peterson are a Track A family in their 5th year at SLOCA, with kids Jake (UMS), Josh (LMS) and Sandy (Int). Here’s a brief but fun and meaningful moment that Margie sent in:
While in the car the other day, we heard the current pop song by Bastille, “Pompeii.” I deciphered the line in the lyrics that says, “How am I going to be an optimist about this?” I was ruminating out loud on that line and how cool I thought it was. Then one of my boys asked what an optimist was. So I went on to try to explain an optimist versus a pessimist (and admitted that I can fall on the pessimist side more than I would like…). Suddenly, my eight-year-old intermediate daughter says, “That makes sense! Because the Latin word optimus means good, and pessimus mean bad!” Thank you SLOCA and Ms. Paquette!
And thanks for sharing, Margie – we love hearing about those moments when connections are being made!
