San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Magical Moments: Mount Olympus

{all photos by Michelle Dorman}

Welcome back! We trust you had a refreshing break, and we look forward to diving into our thrid trimester together.

Today’s Magical Moment comes straight from Mount Olympus! Our annual auction fundraiser, that is. We have a few photos to commemorate the merry and memorable evening, as well as a special message from Cozy Faber, our Development Director:

The view from Mount Olympus on March 15th was indeed remarkable!  Perhaps mostly so due to its undeniable similarity to the panoramic vista from the hills of San Luis Obispo.  Seated on high were 112 Gods and Goddesses, some dressed in their formal gowns, others disguised as mortals who all banded together while feasting upon fillet mignon, halibut and polenta and who bonded through a communal interest in the financial well being of SLOCA.  Certainly it was a night brim-filled with frivolity, festivity and good fortune for all of us who appreciate the fruits of group funding.  And truly, that’s what this night held beneath the cover of costumes, good food and donated wine: a real-time, live, brick and mortar, up close and personal, group funding effort.

A group effort such as this involves much planning.  It demands many donations. It requires a roomful of willing participants.  With gratitude I invite you to read the names below as a socialite from the 1920’s would have scoured the social pages eager to learn of who did what last weekend.  Search for the names of your friends and celebrate their contributions.  Seek the businesses you patronize and recognize their support within our community and thank them.  Note the ways that our world here at SLOCA relies upon more than just those paying tuition—this list is vast and worth your notice.  Please, seize the power to make a difference—note who is listed here, thank them and recognize them.  Gratitude is powerful—wield it often.

I offer sincere gratitude and thanks to all of the guests who attended and participated, and to all of our volunteers and donors:
