These teacher auction items have truly been Magical Moments for the kids, and it's been fun to share them on the blog. Here’s another one… or rather, two… to show you today. Mrs. Perneel hosted not one but TWO movie nights at her home for the winners of her auction event, and tells us a little about how the evenings went:
For my auction item, I offered a pizza and movie night at my house. I am unable to say “no” to any of my current, future or past students so when I heard my event was full and the emails of missing the cutoff started coming in, I split it into a girl's night and boy's night and added everyone!
16 boys, ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade and I squished into my small living room, and enjoyed “Night at the Museum,” pizza and popcorn. But first, we had to take a selfie:
Note to self – they may be little boys but they can EAT!! After we finished the movie and dinner, we had sundaes!
It's hard to pick just one favorite moment, but one I'd love to share is when an instrumental tune caught the attention of about half the group. The boys started looking at each other, trying to figure out what song it was. As soon as it caught on, the Intermediate boys burst into song, singing Mrs. Wallace's science song she had just taught them about the bones! “The thigh bone is connected to the knee bone…”
People thought I was crazy to have such a large group of boys in my house. They are such an amazing group of young men that it never occurred to me to worry. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Next I had 9 girls, ranging from Jr. Kindergarten to 2nd grade come and have their turn at a movie and pizza with me! And of course, we started off with a selfie:
They chose to watch the classic “The Little Mermaid.” One of the highlights was listening to them sing every song – talk about adorable!
After dinner and desert, we had a nail painting party! The girls picked their colors, stickers and design, and patiently waited for me to paint each of their nails.
Thankfully I am better at teaching than I am at painting nails! The girls were so gracious and kind to one another. It really is such a special group we have at SLOCA.
I am really excited to do it all again next year!
Thanks so much for telling us about your wonderful evenings with the kids, Mrs. Perneel! It’s clear that everyone had a blast and we are so thankful for our amazing, caring teachers!
