Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Magical Moments: Pancake Breakfast with Mrs. Root

{photo by Mary Knudson}

Today we have another Teacher auction event to share with you! This magical moment was sent in by Mrs. Root, our Kindergarten teacher on Track A. She hosted a pancake breakfast for her students, and they had a super-sweet time! Thanks for sharing your morning with us, Mrs. Root:

Three of my Kindergarten students (Tobin, Beatrice, and Maggie) purchased tickets to join me (and my son Zeke – also one of my Kindergarteners this year) at my home for a breakfast of pancakes. They arrived in their pajamas to find a pancake buffet set up with mini chocolate chips, whipped cream, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, banana slices, maple syrup, and sprinkles. I also served orange juice, almond milk, and regular milk along with fresh pineapple.

They created their pancake creations and gobbled them up. I had checked out some library books having to do with pancakes so they listened to me read a couple of those and then we played a couple of games of Twister.

I then led them in a craft to create their own grass head guys (or girls), which they got to take home with them, but sadly no one has had any grass pop up yet (maybe it's a Pinterest fail?).

By the time we finished our craft our 2 hours together had flown by and their parents began to arrive.

It was so much fun to have them over! I love being around my Kindergarteners and this was such a special morning together spent in our pajamas.
