A new trimester means new links and resources to share on the blog! This past Monday night a couple of our teachers did a fabulous job giving us overviews of our history and literature for this trimester. To follow up their excellent presentations, today we want to provide you with some online resources and fun things to do centered around Ancient Greece.
Once again, these are all optional so no pressure. We just want to save you a little time in researching history-related sites for enrichment, although the following are just a few examples of what’s available – there is a TON of stuff about ancient Greece on the internet! Feel free to share your own online discoveries in the comments below.
We hope these resources are helpful to you on your home days, and perhaps over the holiday break your kids will enjoy some of the supplemental sites and activities (think E&E!):
Research/Information:

Ancient World Religions comparison chart, Eastern vs. Western Philosophy chart, and Religions Timeline – as seen in Sarah Shotwell’s history training presentation
- Comprehensive map of Greece – you choose the options you want and it creates a pdf
- Interactive TimeMap of Greece – great for older kids (and adults) to see how the map of Greece changes over time
- Basic chart of the Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses – or if you don’t have the D’Aulaires’ Greek Myths book, check out this chart, which is more fun.
- Artwork inspired by The Odyssey – as seen in Lisa Ann’s literature presentation
- Map of The Odyssey – also seen in Lisa Ann’s presentation, great to have on hand while reading the book!
- Table of Proverbs from Aesop’s Fables – lists each story name and the moral it teaches
Games and Activities:
- BBC: Greek Hero game – Click on the link on the left to find the game; there is lots on this site to explore!
- Ancient Arcade interactive game – match greek mythological figures to their symbols
- Which mythological figure are you? – take this quiz and find out which Greek hero, god, friend or monster matches your personality
- Go for the Gold (It’s Greek to me) – learn about Greek influences on the English language
- Adventures in Ancient Greece – a simple, interactive site for younger kids
- Odyssey Online: Greece – an interactive learning experience, great for older kids
Crafts, Coloring and Things to Make:
- How to build a catapult with craft sticks – includes a video with instructions
- Homemade LEGO scenes from Ancient Greece – a few photos to inspire your LEGO creators
- Super Impressive LEGO scenes from Ancient Greece – wow, these are pretty cool and will excite your LEGO enthusiast!
