Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.

It’s Christmas week, and whether you celebrate Christmas or another holiday, this time of year is typically filled with a child’s sweet anticipation, warm and familiar traditions, cozy smells and tastes, and time with loved ones. But this week can also be a struggle, if you’re “not ready” or feeling overwhelmed by the full calendar and long list of to-dos.
Many of us experience this. We want to be present and enjoy every day and every activity of the holiday season with gratefulness. We don’t want to be too busy, but we don’t want the kids to be bored. We want to put the focus on giving, not getting. We want to reflect and slow down, to simplify and connect. But we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be organized, on top of things, have a clean house, and spread peace and goodwill, all the while creating lasting family memories!
Jamie Martin, editor of Simple Homeschool, posted an article last year which I found very helpful for getting out of “to-do”mode and directing my own attitude and outlook in the days leading up to Christmas. Click on the link below to read it – perhaps it will resonate with you as well:
Three Attitudes to Make Your Christmas Week Better
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of our families and readers! May this week be a time of looking forward and delighting in the season.
