There are many things of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
We’ve been studying the Islamic Golden Age and the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, a time and place in which art and science flourished, where learning and wisdom were sought after. Scholars at that time tried to gather all the known world’s knowledge, contributing many intellectual and cultural achievements to the Islamic empire and beyond.
Today we have no shortage of information available to us at every moment, but knowledge isn’t the same thing as wisdom. In our media-saturated and technology-filled world, we have to choose what knowledge to seek after, and what not to spend our time on.
May you choose wisely this weekend! Aim to spend some Free by Five time with your loved ones, gaining knowledge about each other without the distraction of phones, tablets, computers and video games. Down Home is rooting for you and your family as we all seek to grow our own “houses of wisdom.”
