The Hanging Lantern Review is holding its annual spring reading one week from tonight! In case you’re not familiar with the Hanging Lantern Review, it’s an online literary arts/culture blog and annual print magazine showcasing the talents and ideas of young adults throughout SLO County. It’s hosted and produced by the students of San Luis Obispo Classical Academy High School, to promote the literary arts among high school and middle school students. Here are the details for the event, along with photos from past readings:
This year, we are thrilled to announce that we will be having our reading at the beautiful Dallidet Adobe garden in downtown San Luis Obispo! The event address is 1185 Pacific Street. The event will be on May 19, and doors will open to the public at 6:00 pm. The event will start promptly at 6:30 and will be followed by a coffee and dessert reception.
Event Price: General Admission Tickets (includes new issue!) can be purchased at the door for $10, or can be purchased in advance at the front desk at the SLOCA office. Tickets are on sale now. We encourage you to purchase tickets in advance to ensure that you have a spot!
General Admission tickets include refreshments, admission, and a complimentary copy of The Hanging Lantern Review 2015 Issue (a $10 value!) Child/student tickets can be purchased for $5. These do not include a copy of the magazine. Additional magazines will be available for purchase. If your child wants a magazine, please purchase a General Admission ticket for them to ensure that they receive the best value.
Dress Code: This year, our dress code will be semi-formal. We encourage you to dress warmly as well, or bring an extra layer, as the event will be outside.
General Info: There is no parking lot at the Dallidet Adobe, but nearby metered parking is free after 6:00 pm. Otherwise, parking can be found throughout downtown San Luis Obispo.
LASTLY, we will be enjoying our reading at this beautiful historic site under the stars, and feel that it is a tremendous privilege that the SLO Historical Society has allowed us to do so. Attentive children with an interest in literature are encouraged to attend; however, the Dallidet Adobe has requested that all parents keep a close eye on small children and toddlers to ensure they are not left unattended. It may be better for some families to leave small children at home, depending on each child's needs. However, we leave this up to each family's discretion.
Please come out for a beautiful evening and hear the contest winners read their selections. Purchase your tickets in the SLOCA office to guarantee your spot, or at the door. Support young writers in our community!
