Today's post is not a throwback, but we have some valuable information to pass along: Did you know that the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center (the PAC) offers student matinees throughout the year, and admission is free? SLOCA will be attending some of these performances as field trips, but you can also request tickets for you and your kids as a homeschooler for additional performances, if there are seats available.
This school year, SLOCA plans to attend the following student matinee performances at the PAC:
- Track B Middle schoolers will be seeing Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, a double-feature opera.
- Track B Kindergarten-Intermediate students will see Steve Trash (The Science of Ecology), featuring educational eco-entertainment and green magic tricks.
- Track A Intermediate and LMS students will see Music Tells the Story – featuring Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.

If you’re interested in trying to get tickets for you and your children for any of the shows NOT already planned by SLOCA for your child’s track/level, there are instructions on the above page for how to request tickets during the Open Reservation Request Period, which starts September 1st.
Here are the steps to request tickets as a homeschooler, or visit the link above for more information:
1. Download and review the PAC 2015-16 School Matinee Performance Reservation Packet, including the 2015-16 Policies and Reservation Request Form.
2. Get together with the teachers and principal at your school site and decide on who is coming to which performance(s) – be sure to indicate first AND second choices in case your first choice performance is already full. Then designate one person to be the main administrative contact for all PAC reservation correspondence (this person will fill out and submit the reservation form). This step is of the utmost importance as only one form is accepted per school.
(Since you will submitting the request as a homeschooler, you will be the teacher and contact person.)
3. Print and fill out the Reservation Request Form, including the signature of your school's principal at the bottom of the form. Be sure to include teachers and chaperones in the total number of requested seats.
(Use your name or your spouse's name for principal, and yourself as teacher/chaperone.)
4. Submit the signed and completed Reservation Request Form via email to PAC Outreach at [email protected] or via fax at (805) 756-6088. If submitting by fax, please also send us an email indicating you have sent the fax.
5. Receive an email notification of your confirmed seat reservation (by June 1 if Early Reservation Request, by September 1 if Standard Reservation Request, within two weeks if Open Reservation Request).
All Open Reservation Requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and if space is available. Notifications will be emailed within two weeks of each request.
IMPORTANT: Each school is only allowed 200 tickets and SLOCA has already requested all 200 tickets for our planned field trips, mentioned above. If you want to request additional tickets for your family for other performances, please list yourself as a homeschooler, and do not list SLOCA as the school.
We hope you can take advantage of this awesome opportunity to include the arts in your home education this year!
