Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Monday Mix-ins: Bookstore Goodies

Happy Labor Day! Whether you are getting together with friends and family, traveling, preparing your school area and supplies, or just enjoying down time, we hope you are off to a great start and can catch a quick breather before we dive back in.

Today and tomorrow we will not have classes on campus, so we encourage families to use some of this time for “E&E” – “Enrichment and Education,” which means any kind of educational activity that goes along with what we are studying, or additional educational pursuits your child is interested in. (12 hours per trimester are required for Kinder-UMS, in addition to our classroom and normal home days, and you will record your E&E hours at the end of the trimester in your parent progress report.) Examples of E&E include, but are not limited to: field trips, exploring a topic of interest, reading additional books based on our history or science, watching historical documentaries, visiting museums, catching up on school work, etc.

Our Monday Mix-ins are a great source of E&E ideas! Today we want to make sure you know about the many homeschool tools and gifts available right in our very own school bookstore. These are all optional, of course, but this year we have gathered a wonderful supply of materials you might love having on hand at home to complement what you are already doing, to explore interests further, or just for fun. Here are a few examples of the kinds of items we are currently carrying in the bookstore:
