Wednesday Wonders: Pageant of the Masters

Can you believe history day was almost a month ago? We celebrated the end of the first trimester with our Pageant of the Masters Renaissance Tableau, and it was a spectacular hit! SLOCA parent Julie Lynem shared her reflections on history day in one of our weekly updates, and today we post it again, along with a few more photos from this amazing evening. It had all the high drama of opening night at the theater. The hallways buzzed with excitement as students put the finishing touches on their Renaissance era attire. Teachers ensured lines were well rehearsed. Parents helped students primp and pose, snapped photos and waited anxiously for the gallery doors to swing open.

After all the tireless efforts of parents, staff and students to make it happen, The Pageant of the Masters did not disappoint.

Every year I stand in awe as our school gets down to the business of history day, and each year, it exemplifies some of the best SLOCA has to offer. As I entered each room, I was impressed with the detailed sets and costumes, and the way the students effortlessly recited their lines, often throwing in a healthy dose of humor and sarcasm (those who visited the School of Athens and the high school's Caravaggio Galleries know what I mean).

For one magical evening, SLOCA students, from our youngest to oldest children, not only learned about Renaissance paintings; they became living, breathing parts of these incredible works of art. I walked away with a greater appreciation of this historical period, and now my third-grader and kindergartner want to know when they can travel to see the paintings in person. We will certainly make time for that, although it may not be for a few years.

So, bravo to the students, staff and parents. Yet again, you have given us another reason to be proud of our school community. A standing ovation is in order for an inspiring and memorable evening!
