“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.
“It’s so dreadful to be poor!” sighed Meg, looking down at her old dress.
“I don’t think it’s fair for some girls to have plenty of pretty things, and other girls nothing at all,” added little Amy, with an injured sniff.
“We’ve got Father and Mother, and each other,” said Beth contentedly from her corner.
~ Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
Although not necessarily a “Christmas” book, many of us associate Little Women with Christmas in some way. It’s one of our current Lower Middle School Must Reads (we think it’s a “must read” for every age!), so it feels appropriate to send you into the weekend and next week with a quote from this cherished classic.
No matter how we each celebrate this time of year, we can all relate to Beth’s gratitude for family. We are also deeply thankful for our SLOCA family, and that we have each other this season. Hold your “little men and women” close, and have a very merry week!
Down Home will return Monday, December 28. Here’s one more quote from Little Women to enjoy during your break:
“Take some books and read; that’s an immense help; and books are always good company if you have the right sort.”
