This could really count as a “Wednesday Wonder” but we want to share it with you early – did you know that SLOCA has an Archery Club that meets on Fridays? Recently, a few of our archers competed in a tournament, and represented SLOCA with style. Their coach Rich Bartel shares the news:
SLOCA Competes at the California State JOAD Indoor Championships in Tulare
Lucy, Cole, and William Dorman, along with their coach, Mr. Rich Bartel, represented San Luis Obispo Classical Academy at the 2016 California State JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Indoor Championships in Tulare on Friday, January 8th. One hundred fifteen archers showed up from all over California to compete in this annual event at the Tulare Fairgrounds. Twenty divisions of youth, ranging in age from 8 to 17, shot 60 arrows each in this tournament. The top three scores in each division received metals. Cole received 3rd place in the Male Bowman Compound division, and William received 3rd place in the Male Cub Compound division.
USA Archery sanctions this Junior Olympic Archery Development tournament each year in hopes that maybe one day one of these aspiring archers will stand on the blocks for the USA at the Olympic Games. Whether or not this happens, archery is fun and builds personal confidence, mental concentration, and community involvement. Congratulations, Cole and William, on these benchmark achievements!
And that’s not all. This weekend there’s a local archery tournament, which some of our students will be entering. (It’s not too late for other archery members to enter too – see link below for sign up form.) We have five SLOCA students shooting this Saturday: Isa Rosales, Dimitri Skiff, Taya Ambrose, Amy Becker, and Serafina Madonna. Spectators are encouraged to attend, and we hope you’ll come out and support our SLOCA archers. Here’s the info on this upcoming tournament:
