San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Just a heads-up that re-enrollment for next year ends Monday, February 29th! If you have any questions about the re-enrollment process, please email [email protected]. Open enrollment starts Tuesday, March 1.

Happy Friday to you and yours. Did you see the Garrison Keillor quote in the update from last week?

“The rules for mothering and fathering are: Keep your voice down; no sudden moves; don't crowd the child. Keep all thoughts of disaster to yourself. Find out how to enjoy being with your child, and do that as often as possible, even if it almost kills you.”

~Garrison Keillor

What true, funny, and encouraging words! Find out how to enjoy being with your kids and family this weekend. We continue to have amazing weather for this time of year, so get outside and enjoy a healthy dose of nature together before all this GREEN is gone! Take a hike, relax at the beach, start a garden…

And finally, here are the results of last weekend's Archery Tournament, and a couple of photos taken by parent Erin Ambrose. Central Coast Archery has more photos on their Facebook page.

SLOCA  Competes  at  the  Valentines  JOAD  Tournament

Seven of our students: Taya Ambrose, Amy Becker, Serafina Madonna, Isa Rosales, Dimitri Skiff, Kyra Tucker, and Oscar Wisner, competed with archers from three other JOAD Clubs: Arroyo Grande Archery, Central Coast Archery, and NCCS Archery, on Saturday the 20th at the Madonna Ranch.  Each archer shot a total of 36 arrows at targets set up appropriately for their age group.  Oscar received 1st, and Dimitri received 2nd in their division!  Taya received 1st, and Serafina received 3rd in their division!  Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Clubs are the lifeblood of USA Archery and our students are progressing well in this curriculum.  Congratulations Oscar, Dimitri, Taya, and Serafina for your achievements!

If you teach an Academy Class or Club and would like to feature your class work or accomplishments on the blog, email Down Home and tell us about it. We love to share what's happening “outside the grid” and to cheer our students on!

We wish you a fabulous Free by Five Friday!
