Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

SLOCA parents, have you downloaded the St. Patrick’s Day holiday resource guide? The link was shared in the March 1 weekly update. This guide provides a little history plus lists of books, movie titles, and internet links to learn more about why and how we celebrate the patron saint of Ireland on the 17th of March. We’ve got a break coming up, and this is a great way to get some E&E hours while exploring the rich cultural and historical significance of this holiday with your family.

We are excited for the Father Daughter Dance tomorrow night, which we know is going to be a blast – have fun, dads and daughters! Here are a few other local weekend events:

  • Robotics for Kids – Saturday, March 12, 10-11am at the Arroyo Grande Library. Kids can learn how robots are made, how they compete, and even take one for a spin with the AGHS Robotics Team. For kids 3 and up. Part of Teen Tech Week.
  • Puppet Show at the Library – Saturday, March 12, 11am-12pm at the Santa Margarita Library. Meet Billie Bear, Barny Owl and friends as they entertain and teach you about living in the oak woodlands with a fun and educational nature themed puppet show.
  • Cayucos Sea Glass Festival – Saturday, March 12, 10am-5pm and Sunday, March 13, 10am-4pm. Sea Glass enthusiasts, craftspeople, jewelers, collectors and artists from all over the world come to showcase and sell their collections and creations at this annual festival.
  • CCAS Star Party – Last weekend’s Star Party was cancelled due to rain, so they are holding it this Saturday. Visit the CCAS website for info. UPDATE: This has been cancelled tonight too. Sorry!
