Today’s blog ties in somewhat to Tuesday’s, in that we are giving you MORE places outside your home where you can learn. But today we are focusing on a few local spots you can visit with your kids for meaningful field trips that go along with our Ocean Unit in Science this trimester.
Thank you to Jennifer Wright for sending out this list to her LMS families – we wanted to share it with everyone:
Morro Bay Natural History Museum – The LMS kids will be taking a field trip here at the end of the school year, but you can go on your own at any time.
Elephant Seals north of San Simeon – The peak season has just passed, but there are still seals to see. Click here for a calendar of what’s happening each month.
Coastal Discovery Center at San Simeon Bay – It's small and sweet, but a great addition to a fun day of hiking and picnicking and fishing on the pier.
Central Coast Aquarium – Located in Avila Beach right near the park, this is a fun spot to visit before or after a day at the beach/park.
The Cal Poly Pier in Avila Beach – The next open house is May 14, 9am to noon. The tour features interactive displays, microscopes for viewing ultra-small sea creatures, a “discover SCUBA” experience and more. Cal Poly professors and students will be on hand to explain their ongoing research into local marine life, including Morro Bay's ecosystem, sustaining local fisheries and mapping ocean currents on the Central Coast.
