Here's a short note from our WASC coordinator Jenna Burns, about about our school's accreditation renewal process and the site visit happening next Monday through Wednesday:
Over the past year the whole of SLOCA staff and many volunteers have been working very hard to complete the necessary steps for our accreditation renewal year. We are very excited for our upcoming site visit which will be an accumulation of all our hard work.
Did you know that SLOCA is an ACS WASC Accredited school? ACS WASC stands for The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is a private and nonprofit organization that serves over 4,500 K – 12 schools. Accreditation is a huge benefit to our school. It validates the integrity of our program and transcripts, facilitates transfer of credits to other schools, and helps us improve our school and support student learning.
SLOCA was granted the standard initial three year accreditation in 2013. To renew our accreditation, we completed an extensive and in-depth report on our school. This self-study is the product of whole school collaboration and investigation. With that mammoth effort completed, we will be visited May 1st – 4th by a four-person committee.
The committee is made up of volunteers from educators in California schools. They are here to verify the report, celebrate our success, and support us in our continuing growth. The leader of this group has been helping us throughout the year and visited the school back in February.
During their time at our school, the committee will be visiting classrooms, talking with staff, meeting with students, reading our self-study, and writing a report of their own. We are excited to share SLOCA with them, knowing our special community of lifelong learners will make an impact on our guests.
If you see the visiting committee please give them a warm SLOCA welcome, and if they ask you any questions answer honestly and freely.
Thank you,
Jenna Burns
