Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Summer: To Schedule, or Not to Schedule?

It’s almost here – are you ready for it? We know the kids are excited for summer, and we think the parents are too. : )

We’d love to know if you schedule your summer days, or just embrace the craziness and laziness that goes along with summer? Or do you do a little of both?

If you are the scheduling type (or semi-scheduling type, which I think I am), below is a link to a printable we found over at Somewhat Simple that you might like to use. It has themes for each day to help guide you in choosing an activity or outing to do, without necessarily taking up the whole day (see example at right, but click below to download the full-size blank printable):

Summer Schedule: Weekly Outline for Kids

Let’s hear from our readers: Do you schedule activities (or “school,” or reading), even loosely, using something like the printable above? Let’s share ideas for keeping summer relaxing but rewarding! Please leave a comment below and share if you are a summer scheduler or unscheduler…
