Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Wednesday Wonders: Love of Latin

{photo by Stephanie Ridley}

Today’s Wednesday Wonder comes from the Ridley family. Stephanie and Bryan Ridley have two children at SLOCA on Track B: Isobel (6th grade) and Sibylla (3rd grade), and 3-year old Ensio. The Ridleys are in their 4th year at SLOCA, and Stephanie sent in this fun story to share:

All 3 of my kids (6th, 3rd and 3yrs) love to put on the Latin CD and listen to it as they go about their day.  Often they just sit and follow along in the book (even Ensio!).  But the first week of school, they put it on, and made up routines to it!  I have fond memories of making up plays and routines with my cousins… but never to Latin!!

I also got to overhear Isobel and Sibylla talking about what they wanted to study in college.  Isobel said she wants to study Latin!!

We love this! Thank you for sharing, Stephanie. Parents, we'd love to hear about those moments that make you pause and appreciate what's happening at SLOCA. Please email Down Home to share!
