We are so pleased when teachers share their special moments on “Wednesday Wonders,” and we know our parents enjoy them too! Here’s a lovely one that was sent in by Intermediate teacher Mrs. Wallace:
A student who was in my Intermediate class last year (currently in Lower Middle School) dropped by my room to say hello (which brings me such joy!). We were talking about what books we are reading and have read and her eyes brightened up. She eagerly stated, “Oh, Mrs. Wallace, I read a book over the summer that you would absolutely love! It was about animals (which she knows are a big part of my life) but it also was full of a wonderful assortment of alliterations, metaphors, and similes! You would simply love it!”
Seriously? How many middle school students notice the alliterations, similes, and metaphors in a book that is read for pleasure and not for a school assignment? No one was passing out points for reading this book. She had no worksheets to fill in. She was reading for pleasure, remembering some of the things to look for in good literature. The best part was that she realized how these literary devices added to her pleasure in reading this book.
Way to make this teacher's day!
