Today let’s hear from our Development Director, Cozy Faber:
He weaves tales. He dances with words. He gathers his audience into the folds of each tale as he escorts them gently to reflect upon the simplicity of truth veiled by the complexities we shroud our daily comings and goings in. Laced with delicious humor and brimming with common-sense proverbial adages aplenty, the work of Mr. Garrison Keillor has been celebrated for over 40 prodigious years. Even those unsure of his contribution to the storytelling art form have likely heard his voice and recognize its influence upon the radio airwaves. His notoriety is legendary and certainly knowing him for a moment while riding the crest of each tale will imprint forever the memory of an experience we all would be fortunate to carry within.
With great excitement and savory anticipation we, here at SLOCA, await the arrival of famed storyteller Garrison Keillor! Touching down onto the shores of the Central Coast the morning of November 16th, Mr. Keillor will reconnect with his appreciation for our beautiful city. After a visit to our fair land he wrote a note to our local public radio station KCBX:
“And for my part, I never felt so much at home as I did among those folks in San Luis. These people were friends. After all these years, this is so moving, even heavenly. Some of us have lived an old fairy tale in which we, the self-conscious and inept outsider, stand in the dark and gaze at the lighted windows where the gifted and attractive are mingling at the wedding dance and we long to be among those people. A magical owl leads us to the radio station, and there we find, intertwined, the power of invisibility and the gift of speech that can give us entrance to the company of others. And from this, we make a life. And ever so often, as at San Luis Obispo, we get to move among the others and be one of them and not just a voice.”
Join us as we welcome Garrison Keillor back to a city where he feels welcomed and at home. This will be an evening to remember! November 16th, 7:00pm at the PAC.
