For the month of December, our character trait focus is Gratitude:
Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives and for what we have and receive.
Catch phrase: Say thank you as much as possible.
Although the holidays can easily become all about “the stuff” that we want to buy (have you seen all the amazing holiday items in our school store???), we know that it’s really about focusing on gratitude and appreciation for what we already have, what we are going to give and receive, and most of all the special people in our lives – our kids, our families, our dear friends, our wonderful SLOCA community…
So while we enjoy SLOCA’s Holiday Faire and carefully choose those precious items that our loved ones will cherish (thank you, Emily, for finding such high-quality, fun, educational treasures!), we will let our holiday traditions and shopping be fueled by gratitude.
Maybe we can shift the focus a bit in our homes during this season, slow down the opening of gifts to leave time for genuine appreciation, and look for ways to serve others around us, as ways to encourage this character trait this month.
