Two weeks ago a community of young writers, along with friends and family, gathered at the charming Dallidet Adobe in San Luis Obispo to commemorate the launch of Hanging Lantern Review’s 5th Anniversary issue.
As you may know, Hanging Lantern Review is an annual literary print magazine for middle and high school students on the Central Coast. It is completely hosted and produced by SLOCA High School students, under the direction of faculty advisor Sarah Shotwell.
The audience at this year’s Spring Reading and Release Party was treated to a selection of student-written poetry, fictional short stories, and non-fiction writing (as well as stunning photographs featured throughout the magazine). Editor-in-Chief Hannah Thompson introduced each reader and selection. What a pleasure it was to sit in a lovely garden and listen to these students read their work! Copies of the print edition were also for sale, beautifully designed by Creative Director Eden Theule and Print Coordinator Brigitte Rein.
Congratulations to each young person whose writing or photo was published this year, and thank you for sharing your work with us! Here are a few pictures from the evening:
