San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Friday Family Fun

We want to remind everyone that today is the LAST day for SLOCA families to enter our blog drawing… this one is so easy! Click here for all the details and enter before midnight tonight!

Our Upper Middle Schoolers are enjoying “Life Together” today as they head out to Vista Lago Adventure Park for their annual Team Building Day of fun! What do you have planned together with family or friends this weekend?

Bonding together as a family can happen over something as simple as playing a classic card game, making Sunday sundaes, or stargazing. Or create memories by going to a local park together and playing on the equipment with your kids – they love when you play with them!

Here are several local family-friendly events happening around the county, if you’re looking to get out:

  • Friday Kids Afternoon Movie at the SLO Library – Friday, September 8th, 2:30-4 pm. The library selects films appropriate for children ages 4 and up.
  • Avila Beach Farmer’s Market – Friday, September 8th, 4-8 pm.
  • Sheriff’s Day at the Ranch – Saturday, September 9th, 9 am-5 pm at Madonna Meadows. A fun community event hosted by the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation. The event is free to people of all ages and is intended to entertain and educate the public on the positive role that our local law enforcement and safety personnel play in our community, including the display of their equipment and demonstrations.
  • Caledonia Days in San Miguel – Saturday, September 9th, starting at 10 am-4 pm. Celebrate bygone ways of bygone days with Dutch oven cooking and tastings, barbecued food, live music, skilled artisans and craftsmen, displays of small engines, local rock enthusiasts with their collections, and more!
  • Family Fun Fair in Los Osos – Sunday, September 10th, 12-4 pm. Celebrate Grandparent’s Day at the 10th Annual Family Fun Fair presented by the Rotary Club. There will be entertainment, a BBQ, and kids activities.
  • Pajama Party Movie in Paso Robles – Sunday, September 10th, 7 pm. Showing “Rebel Without a Cause” on the big screen at Park Cinemas. $10 admission, includes popcorn and soda.

(Pssst…we also share occasional fun family ideas on Facebook…) If you know of any other great family events happening this weekend, leave a comment and share.

And here again is an upcoming opportunity for middle schoolers:

Cal Poly's Society of Women Engineers will be hosting its bi-annual Building an Engineer Day (BAE Day) on October 21st from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. BAE Day is an event that allows middle school students to participate in a series of engineering activities and labs from the various engineering clubs on campus. If you are interested in participating in this event please fill out the interest list using the following link:

Feel free to share the link with anyone who is interested.

Next week we will start introducing Team SLOCA, and will post one group each Friday. This will be a fun series you won’t want to miss!

Have a lovely (cooler than the last one) weekend!
