“We’re all grateful for people who write and speak in ways that help us remember that we’re not alone.”
~ Brené Brown
Happy Friday! We’ve been running a series periodically on Fridays called “Friday Flops,” in which we humbly, bravely, and graciously write about some of our not-so-finer moments. This has been a stretching opportunity for those who are willing to share, and encouraging for all of us! It certainly is refreshing to know that we are not alone in making mistakes or experiencing difficulties.
Today we’ll hear from our Middle School Latin teacher, Pam Gerhardt:
Back in September, amidst all of our son's wedding plans, and as I was driving to school, I began to have the feeling that I was going to lose something because I had too many things on my mind to remember. And too many lists! In my second period Latin class, after I returned the graded tests to my UMS Latin students, one student reported that she had not received her graded test. I told her I must have “misplaced” it and I would bring it to the next class. By the next class, I still had not found it and had received an email from her mother. Yikes! I assured her I would find the test, hoping it was accidentally paper clipped to another student's work. I spent way too much time looking at every single piece of paper in my possession. Nothing!! That next weekend we attended the wedding and returned home. Sunday night, quite exhausted, I sat on the couch and found a homework paper which I knew belonged to our house sitter. It had slipped between two cushions and was only slightly visible. After a quick prayer and a great deal of hope, I began to look for the missing Latin test. Again I peered under the couch, and in the shadows against the wall I could barely see a sheet of paper which apparently had flown under the couch and part way up the wall. Eureka! Happy ending to the story!
Whew, so glad there was a happy ending – thank you for sharing this, Pam! And thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. We are always accepting new submissions, so send your Friday Flops to Down Home!
As we head into the weekend, here's an upcoming performance featuring three of our SLOCA students:
A Little Princess at The SLO Repertory Theater – 8th grade student Sienna Ritter will be performing the lead role of Sara Crew, and 7th grader Rachel Miller and high school junior Alyssa Mickey have supporting roles. This show is suitable for families with young children. The show runs from January 12-28, with Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday show times. Click here for info and to purchase tickets.
