We love this quote, and it’s one of the big reasons we have been sharing these Friday Flops on the blog – somehow it IS nourishing to know we are not alone in our struggles. We love hearing about the successes too, of course! We encourage you to send either or both in to Down Home. Let’s keep building our community and supporting each other by sharing our stories.
Today we have a home day flop from Track A parent Joy Newman:
Awhile ago, we were working on shapes in Level 1 math. My first grader was getting confused between squares and rectangles so I patiently explained the difference. He insisted upon the opposite of what I was saying, claiming that squares are the ones with the different lengths on two sides and rectangles always have equal sides. We went several rounds of back and forth. I could not allow him to end this math day, let alone grow up and leave home thinking that rectangles had equal sides. Voices may have been raised. I can laugh at it now but the throw down with my 6-year old over which is a square and which is a rectangle was not one of my finer parenting moments.

A Little Princess at The SLO Repertory Theater – 8th-grade student Sienna Ritter will be performing the lead role of Sara Crew, and 7th grader Rachel Miller and high school junior Alyssa Mickey have supporting roles. This show is suitable for families with young children. The show runs until January 28th, with Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday show times. Click here for info and to purchase tickets.

The Spirit of “I Can” – SLOCA 5th grader Antonia Antoniadis will be performing along with other artists (as well as singers, songwriters, dancers, musicians, actors) at the January Review for the Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation. This is a non-profit foundation that provides access to the arts for the local youth. Showtimes are Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 1pm, and Saturday 6pm. Info can be found at www.pryaf.org.
