Today I (Jenny) am celebrating one small victory that I hope many of you have been (or will be) blessed to experience this year: we finished our current level of All About Spelling!!! Cue balloons, streamers, confetti!
I know this is what we are supposed to do and maybe it doesn’t justify a big celebration, but let's just enjoy the wonder of completing that last lesson. If you’re like me, you know that getting to Spelling each week is sometimes sooooo difficult. It takes persistence and patience and occasionally being a little firm with yourself.
So I’m always thrilled when we make it all the way through to the end of the book – and more than just that, each year I’ve found that I’m deeply grateful and delighted because I can literally see my child learning to spell over the course of the year. In our experience, this program works, and I’m so pleased we are using it. I’m also awfully thankful to be done, for a little while.
(With one kid, at least. If it makes you feel any better, with my other student we still have a ways to go in her AAS spelling level. I do plan to keep at it and finish with her too, but I think it’s time to be a little firm with myself about that one…)
I hope you’ve had a successful year in All About Spelling, have seen your child's spelling skills improve, and can celebrate in spirit with me! And for those others who, also like me, still need to finish well with a student, let’s do this – until we are crossing that finish line, let’s be All. About. Spelling. (Okay not all, but some.)
Have you finished AAS this year? Give a shout of joy in the comments below!
