It is that time of year…holidays are just right around the corner and many of you are probably already gearing up for all the festivities to be had! You may be excited to try out a new recipe…or bring out old family favorites. You may have a tablescape idea you can’t wait to show off to your family and friends…or a Thanksgiving craft you’ve been waiting to do with your kids during the break. Then again, you can also be reading this and thinking Thanksgiving? Is it really next week?? What’s a tablescape? Are you kidding me?? Fall sports just ended and I finally turned-in my progress reports!! Can’t I just breathe for a moment? I know we can all relate to one of these (or all!) and we’re here to support you!
Whichever side of the camp you’re in, we felt we could all use a few tips on how to have our homes ready for guests without adding any more stress.
Stock up!
Next time you’re at the market (or big box store), make sure to purchase plenty of must-have products such as tissues, toilet paper rolls, and paper towels. If you have guests staying overnight, make sure to throw in q-tips, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other small toiletries in there as well.
Do small chores!
Try and keep up with the sweeping, vacuuming or wiping bathroom counters on a daily basis rather than waiting the last minute! Divide up the chores between family members so you don’t feel like you need to deep-clean the house.
Simmer some scents!
If you have don’t have an oil diffuser, you can just take some dry spices like cinnamon sticks, cloves, whole nutmeg berries, rosemary, and pine needles, add to a pot of water, along with a few drops of essential oils (like lemon) and bring to a simmer. The smell is amazing!
Adjust the lighting!
If you didn’t quite get to your chores, turn-off any overhead lights, turn-on your lamps and add some candles. This draws the eye away from any areas that didn’t quite get the attention they needed and it just makes everyone cozy.
Try a cool trick!
Here’s a fun experiment to do with your kids and get your drinks cold at the same time! If you need a cold drink and you forgot to put it in the fridge last night, wrap your beverage with a couple of wet paper towels and put it in the freezer for up to 10 minutes. Your drink will come out cold!
Last but not least…put on some music!
Some smooth jazz, or electric funk, or disco tunes…whichever helps you release some stress, do it! Perhaps you end up with a dance party with your loved ones!
We hope you found these tips helpful. And if you have some of your own to share, please let us know below! We’d love to hear them!!
