Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

The Character Issue

“Diligence is the mother of good fortune, and the goal of a good intention was never reached through its opposite, laziness.” -Miguel de Cervantes

Welcome to the first Character Issue of 2019! If you are just joining us and unsure of what The Character Issue is all about, let’s revisit the vision behind this series.

An essential part of SLOCA’s mission statement is to be a community that forges character. As a school, we highly value and nurture strong character traits in our students. In our classrooms, you will find these traits highlighted in our discussions through great literature and other subjects. At home, we aim to inspire our families through this blog series to be another source of encouragement to impart, instill and influence these moral strengths into our students. Downhome posts the monthly character trait towards the beginning of each month followed by great literature resources the following week.

For the month of January, our character trait is Diligence. Diligence is committing to doing tasks with excellence and persevering with determination and patience to complete tasks in spite of difficulties and discouragement. Our catch phrase: Do your best, don’t give up!

May the beginning of your year be filled with opportunities to do your best! We’re cheering for you, Downhome readers!!
