Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

History Day Costume Ideas

Did someone say History Day? Yes! Our Medieval Feast is exactly one month from today! For most of us, we probably haven’t even given it a thought nor is it on any of our lists quite yet (until we got that email last week!). However, for several of our parents, this has been on the top of their priority list. SLOCA’s History Day Committee (comprised mostly of parent volunteers) has been hard at work for a few months now. At this point, they have had countless brainstorming and planning sessions and are now in full execution mode. If you are a current parent at the school, please make sure you read the detailed email about this historic event (it was sent out last Thursday) and lend a hand where you can. The Medieval Feast is one of our favorite History Day events and a fantastic opportunity to get the whole family involved!

One of the ways to prepare for this historic event is to get your costumes ready. You can easily search for costume ideas online and be faced with hundreds and hundreds of choices so we thought we’d narrow a few down for you to get the creative juices flowing. If you don’t already know, make sure to check out SLOCA’s Pinterest page as it has a lot of costume ideas on there already. And don’t forget to shop at Fred & Betty’s (recently voted as New Times’ Best Thrift Store in SLO County!) where you can find inexpensive pieces that can be used or altered and if you know how to sew, the possibilities are endless!
