Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Friday Faces: Tiny Wonders (Part One)

Hello, Down Home readers. It is Friday and we are back with another Friday Faces. Did you know that SLOCA has an infant and toddler program aptly named Tiny Wonders? This week we are featuring six of our terrific Tiny Wonders staff. We hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about them.

What is your favorite edible treat?

  • April: Peanut butter pie
  • Julie: A piece of the darkest chocolate possible.
  • Deena: Jalapeno cheese rolls, they remind me of my dad and Thanksgiving.
  • Sarah: Sushi and a good 3 pm chocolate pick me up.
  • Lindsay: Cheese!
  • Anna: I have a huge sweet tooth so it would probably be something sweet, like homemade chocolate cake, or chocolate chip cookies.

Name a person you have always wanted to meet and tell us why.

  • April: Alton Brown because he is a mad scientist genius of food!
  • Julie: Susannah Wesley – John & Charles Wesley’s mother. She has always been an example to me of what a huge impact a mother can have on the lives of her children. She taught them God’s word and prayed fervently and faithfully for them. Much of their early spiritual understanding and formation is due to her.
  • Deena: I would love to meet Elizabeth Prentiss. A gifted author whose words challenge and inspire me.
  • Sarah: Ellen DeGeneres because she is so kind, funny and has a love for all animals!
  • Lindsay: Phil Collins, I’ve been fascinated by his music since I was a little girl.
  • Anna: I have wanted to meet Laura Ingalls Wilder ever since reading her books as a kid.

What is one thing you wish people knew about you?

  • April: I really dislike the scent of lavender.
  • Julie: I’m an extrovert and I talk a lot so you probably know everything about me already!
  • Deena: It is a pleasure to hear your story it’s what makes you – you.
  • Sarah: That I LOVE Disneyland!
  • Lindsay: I’m very shy.
  • Anna: I am introverted so if you see me in the classroom please come up and say “hi” because I do not always start the conversation but I do like talking to everybody.

What part of your day do you look forward to the most?

  • April: Those first sips of coffee in the morning.
  • Julie: Sitting down with my husband to a home-cooked dinner.
  • Deena: Favorite time of day would be afternoon before the wind arrives. A book in hand outside swinging on a bed made by my children.
  • Sarah: When my littles come into the classroom with sweet smiles of excitement on their faces. Oh, and of course the hugs are just so good!
  • Lindsay: Bedtime so I can snuggle with all my doggies.
  • Anna: Right now, as a college student, it is night time because it gives me a chance to unwind and sleep.

It is so much fun learning about these wonderful women who have the privilege of working with our littlest learners. Don’t miss the next Friday Faces when we will feature the rest of our Tiny Wonders staff. Enjoy this last weekend of October!
