Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Samuel de Champlain, Henry Hudson, & More

Well, we have arrived at Trimester 3 and a lot has been happening in the world around us. With kids at home full time, I (Sharon) am sure you are scheming of ways to keep them engaged and not too stir crazy. How about a collective deep breath?

This weekend I (Sharon) watched Frozen II with my kids and the song Anna sings called, The Next Right Thing, is stuck in my head. As I try to plan this upcoming week, the lyrics of this song keep popping up in my head.

Just do the next right thing
Take a step, step again
It is all that I can to do
The next right thing

While we wait to hear what the weeks ahead will look like for us and our students as our staff work to put together the resources we will need, the next right thing for me was to put together a Monday Mix-ins. I don’t know about you, but I am thankful that this is not a completely novel concept to me and my kids. We can do this and I am so glad I have an amazing community to do it with!

Did you take that deep breath? Let’s delve into some Monday Mix-ins.

This week we are moving away from Elizabethan England and back across the Atlantic Ocean to the “New World”. Today’s post contains an assortment of resource links and videos for you and your student(s) to enjoy as we learn about two more explorers: Samuel de Champlain and Henry Hudson.
