This Friday we have something extra special for you — Poetry! Our Lower Middle School students have been working through a poetry unit and a handful of them have submitted their work to share with you, our Down Home readers. Let’s give them some snaps for their courage and creativity.
The Moon
Anais Currie
The Moon, some nights it’s gone maybe having tea with the sun or dancing for fun
I look out my window, the Moon waves down smiling
I ask for a ride and it picks me up higher and higher till we sit at the top looking down upon Earth
Then the Sun comes up, the Moon’s que to go down
I leap onto Africa then hop to my house, where I slip into bed.
Knob
Lyla Dillon
The knob of the bureau
reflects a poem onto my page.
I dig to unearth it,
with my pencil.
Sitting here,
mining for words.
I don’t know the finished work
until it’s done.
Here it is.
Enjoy.
The Sun
Owyn McCabe
Orange,
The color of it coming up,
a ball of fire.
Yellow
The color that reflects
off the water.
Red & Purple,
The color of it going
Down, & melting in the
Ocean.
Teachers
Sibylla Ridley
Teachers
Always so caring
So helpful, kind, and thoughtful.
Never thinking of themselves,Thank you.
Bored
Sibylla Ridley
Today is very boring
There is nothing to do
I am just sitting in the printer
Waiting to be used.
When someone presses print
I will get ink all over me
And out the rollers I go.
But until then…
I am just sitting in the printer
Waiting to be used.
Dream Your Wish
Corrina Spaulding
Dream,
Your wish,
and it will,
come true,
keeping your joyfulness,
and locking,
away the worst,
for this,
is the right,
path of memories.
Pencil to Paper
Corrina Spaulding
Sometimes when I have nothing to play,
I look at my Journal who has something to say,
Its pages are waving and calling for me,
Its spirit is glowing which I could clearly see.
It came closer and closer until it jumped in my hands,
Its smooth cover walked across my palm
I could even hear it singing a song,
“Pencil to Paper, Pencil to Paper!” It sang all life long,
and the pencil grabbed my fingers and danced across the paper,
creating words and warm thoughts now called a POEM.
Aren’t those fantastic? A huge thank you to the LMS students who bravely submitted their work. Does your student have something they would like to share? Send it to [email protected].
Just a reminder — Down Home will be on Spring Break next week. We hope that you have a relaxing and refreshing week.
