The Dancer’s Paintbrush: Ava Faber
My project “The Dancer’s Paintbrush” was a project-based on the needs of the ballet world and the dancers in it. I have been wondering why certain types of feet fit into different types of shoes and why. It began with my interest in the anatomy of the dancers’ foot and how they functioned in the shoe but my project evolved to become a tool for beginning dancers to find a shoe style or a better pathway to shoes that can suit their needs rather than destroy the dancer’s feet. In small towns like SLO pointe shoe fitters are rare. This means that dancers are forced to order online (or drive 2+ hours to a fitter). My project educates the young dancer (or experienced dancer) to know what to look for if shopping online is the only option. It also helps dancers going into a fitting as they will have a better understanding of their anatomy which will help the fitter bring them closer to their perfect shoe and less risk of injury.
