Hello, Friday. Had it been a “normal” year, this would have been our last Friday of summer. 2020, though, has been nothing close to “normal”. However, we choose to look for the silver linings in this stormy year, and the later start date of school means that we get a few more weeks to savor summer. Why not also savor some yummy food and more quality time with family? We’ve put together a few fun, family-friendly recipes that the kids can either help you make OR maybe make on their own. WIN!
Check out these recipes and be sure to share in the comments if you make any of them, as well as your favorite meal to make with your family. Bon Appétti!
Homemade Corn Dogs | Sadly we can’t attend a county fair this summer, but we can still enjoy a good “corny dog”. (That’s what they call them in Texas.) *This recipe requires hot oil, adult-supervision encouraged.
Baked Parmesan Zucchini | Have a summer garden overflowing with zucchini? Give this recipe a try.
Salad in a Jar | Hot days call for salad. Have the kids assembly these salads in a jar in the cool of the morning ready to be taken out for lunch or dinner.
Pizza Skewers | Pizza and sticks? Sounds like something most kids would love.
Pinwheel Roll-ups | Another recipe perfect for hot days. Filling options are endless; this recipe uses turkey and basil cream cheese.
Mini Lasagna Cups | Pasta and cheese in fun muffin-sized portions, what’s not to love?
Mini Pepper Pizzas | Bells peppers are the perfect pizza canvas. Add any toppings you like.
One-Pot Garlic Pasta | Cooks all in one skillet, tastes like alfredo but doesn’t call for cream.
Bread in a Bag | Let the kids enjoy some sensory fun as they help knead the bread in the bag. Maybe read The Little Red Hen while you wait for it to bake.
Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie | Is it dessert or breakfast? You decide.
Homemade Granola Bars | Only 4 ingredients, no baking required and easy enough for the kids to make themselves. (Gluten-free and can be made nut-free with sunflower seed butter.)
Raspberry-Banana Breakfast Tacos | Looking for a new spin on “Taco Tuesday”? How about fruity breakfast tacos?
Healthy Zucchini Bread | Still have some zucchini? I (Sharon) have made this recipe several times — healthy and yummy! (Freezes well too, if you make a double batch.)
