Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Mix-ins for Monday & Trimester 2 Giveaway!

Hello, Down Home readers, we hope you are having a lovely long weekend. Before we get to the Mix-ins – Do you want to WIN a $15 gift card to The Den AND one to our thrift store, Fred and Betty’s? We want to know what you, and/or your kids, and/or grandkids are reading these days. We have put together a short questionnaire. Answer as many of the questions as you like. For each answer, your name will be entered for an opportunity to win the prize: more answers = more chances to win! The answers from this questionnaire will be compiled into a series of blog posts. We hope that these posts will be an excellent resource for our SLOCA community when faced with the “what to read next quandary”. To be entered for the drawing, submit your questionnaire by February 5th. We will announce our winner in our Mix-ins for Monday on February 7th. Click the link below to begin filling in the questionnaire.

One last thing before the Mix-ins. Tomorrow is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Don’t forget about our free holiday resource for SLOCA families. Learn more about this holiday and why we celebrate. This holiday resource includes history, a long list of movies, plus book & audio links for all different levels so you can learn & discuss as a family! Access this resource through our Parent Portal > Resources > Holiday Resources page.

And now for the Mix-ins…

Since it is a short week, our Mix-ins today are an assortment of the history that our students have been studying over the past few weeks. Also, these days off from school are an excellent time to peruse previous Mix-ins for Mondays. Last week was all about George Washington.
