Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Helpful Hacks:

If you are unfamiliar with the idea of a “life hack” or just need to be inspired here are some examples.

  • When my (Sharon) daughter was a baby/toddler she had a tendency to always put her hands in her hair when she was eating messy food like yogurt, etc. So I started putting a shower cap on her head whenever she ate messy food. She definitely looked silly, but this simple trick saved me so much time in cleaning her up after each meal.
  • Here’s a quick homeschool hack: Clipboards! Have one per student (put their names on them or color-code them for easy identification). At the beginning of each week print up the grids and any other materials that need to be printed and attach them to the clipboard. This makes finding the necessary papers easy as a clipboard is harder to lose than a single sheet of paper. Keep printed recitations, mental math sheets, maps, grammar definitions, etc. on these boards for easy access.

Ready to share your Helpful Hacks? Click HERE to fill in the questionnaire. Need time to think about it? June 9th is the cut-off date to submit your answers. We will announce our prize winner in our Mix-ins For Monday post, June 13th.
