Happy Friday! Today we are continuing to feature some highlights from our Family Business Meeting in January. Cozy Faber, our Development Director, highlighted a particular family that took a creative approach for their Everything Counts fundraiser. David Stoothoff came up with an idea to participate in a triathlon with his son Daniel. He wanted to challenge his son to raise a significant amount for the fundraiser while applying himself to a greater goal.
He says: “I had been doing Triathlons last year and was having a lot of fun so it naturally fit for us. My biggest challenge was to get Daniel to commit to it, which he eventually did. I had Daniel talk to relatives and people he knows about sponsoring us and I also put it on my social media. I used Venmo for those who wanted to use that as well as collecting cash and checks. We asked for a minimum $20 but quite a few did much more. I had a great time training with him (he was probably not as thrilled, ha ha). It was exciting at the race and I know he had a real sense of accomplishment that he not only did well but was responsible for raising money.”
The Stoothoff Family raised just over $2000 for their Everything Counts goal. What a great way to raise money for SLOCA while spending time together as a family! Thank you Cozy and the Stoothoff family for sharing this with Down Home.
